Poem: Self Reflection

 Self Reflection

By Benita Blocker, 2022

Sensitive scalp, sensitive skin

Misunderstood the artist within

Nickel allergy; no pierced ears

My jewelry has to be real so it won't kill.

I come in four different shades just like the seasons.

I throw shade if you give me a reason.

Never conceived, never tried.

Daughter of a Cancer, born with pride

And I'm a Virgo until I die.

Poem: Birthrightful Position

Birthrightful Position

By Benita Blocker, July 2022

There's been plenty who wanted to lay me down.

Sadly, for some, that meant six feet under ground.

But you see as a diamond- I've been used to a lot of dirt.

Even been in a rut

but never been a slut.

Please don't let my sensuality

confuse you.

My artistic expression

elude you.

I am just having fun

on a run.

My purpose is more than surface.

It's a journey

Out of concern

To learn

To discern

As I return

Bàck to my Birthrightful Position.
